Hi,

I'm trying to find work in Vancouver as an American videographer. I see lots of jobs that I'm qualified for but nothing lists that they sponsor visas. I suppose I'd need to talk with the employer and if they want to hire me, ask if they could do it?

I'm applying from the US now but would it be better if I went there and applied on a tourist visa?

Also, two more options I thought about were starting a business and coming on a business visa, as I do have an LLC in the US, or maybe applying through a job agency?

I'd appreciate the help!

Hi there,

Visas always seem like a complicated thing to look into, and with Canada, yoou should consider the different residence permits. One that suits your criteria may be a temporary residence visa or the permit for investors, entrepreneurs and the self-employed. Otherwise, for work permits, you generally have to already have a job in place. Have a look at these guides for more info on visas and work permits for Canada. All what you have suggested are valid routes to take, and as you say, it's important to ask your potential employer, and through a job agency, about visa arrangements.

Hopefully someone on the forum has advice from personal experience to give you regarding the best route!

All the best,

Claire
