Hi- just looking for anyone who would be willing to share their experiences in applying for Italian citizenship. I've been in Italy for over 20 years and would like to start the process before it becomes any more arduous. Thanks- Jill

Hi Jill,

Though I can't speak from personal experience, getting citizenship in Italy doesn't seem to be a simple process. It seems that especially citizenship by naturalisation may be particularly tricky.

My recommendation would be to use the services of an Italian immigration lawyer. The reason for this is that the application procedure can be complex and time-consuming. Also, if you make any errors or leave anything out, your paperwork will be rejected. This can make the process even longer as your application will fall to the back of the queue every time it gets rejected.

Wishing you all the best with the process!
