I have been offered a new job in Abu Dhabi (no interview) but have also been asked to pay for UAE Visa; work permit and UAE Engineer Registry Fee.
Does anyone know if this is normal for UAE processes as I feel this sounds strange? Is it normal to pay for work permits etc. when working in Abu Dhabi?

You are right to question this job offer. If you read Visas for Abu Dhabi, you will see that employers are responsible for all costs getting work permits for their prospective employees. They are, after all, known as your 'sponsor'. For more info, you can visit the official portal of the UAE government (https://u.ae/). While the company you mention seems legitimate, the job offer is suspicious. Have you tried contacting the company directly from contact details on the website itself?

I too have been offered a job in Abu Dhabi, without an interview. The company is PETCO Oil Gas. The travel agency, Century Travel is requesting upfront payment for visas, which doesn’t seem right. I believe this is a scam also.
I recently have a job offer in Abu Dhabi with some prior CV checking already. The employer requested me to contact their appointed legal firm and do the "Affidavit of Work permit/Insurance Certificate" (around AED 6,370.81) for job secure first. The firm stated in the email that, this "Affidavit" fee will be reimbursed by my employer, "AL AMAL AMANI EXPLORATION". From the CV screening and to the job offer, they do have clear contact method and website, as well as telephone no. I do check their company website as well as calling the legal firm and has response. In this case, please give me some advice on whether I should give it a try, though AED 6370 is not a very big amount but still afraid of having a scam. Thanks, Pauline.
Hi Pauline, unfortunately this is sounding very much like a scam. No reputable company would ask you for money, but would cover these costs themselves. If you would like some more information, please see this article on job scams.
