Background

The Qatar International School, a profit-driven day school owned by Sheikh Ali bin Ahmed bin Thani Al Thani, has a long history. Having started as a small pre-school in 1977, the school has since grown to have around 2,000 students of more than 50 nationalities. The school moved to its latest, custom-built campus in 2001. The current facilities include a swimming pool, large sports hall and several subject-specific rooms for art, music and science. The campus was also recently upgraded to include interactive whiteboards and WiFi, among other additions. A number of after-school activities are offered, for the most part free of charge.

What the school says

“Our student body is truly international, with 54 countries represented at the last count. While the teaching staff is predominantly British and the curriculum taught in English, the school is adept at integrating students from a wide variety of cultural and academic backgrounds. We hope you will enjoy browsing our website and we look forward to welcoming you to the school in person one day!”

Curriculum

The school broadly follows the National Curriculum for England from the Early Years Programme up to the IGSCE, A-Levels and AS-Levels. The curriculum also includes international elements.

Fees

Annual fees for the 2024/2025 school year range from QAR 28,900 (Early Years) to QAR 49,050 (Years 12 and 13). There is a once-off application fee of QAR 214.

From the principal

"Receiving a good education is one of the key cornerstones of life, and this is what Qatar International School sets out to achieve. We are a school where ‘Learning Comes First‘ and this philosophy is supported by staff and students alike.

"Our aim is to be one of the best British International Schools in the world and so we strive to provide only the best for our students, both inside and outside the classroom. Like Doha itself, QIS is a very welcoming and friendly place. To achieve this, we ensure the school environment is a safe and secure one that will allow our excellent teachers the opportunity to facilitate high quality lessons and our students the opportunity to develop and learn to the best of their varied and wide-ranging abilities.

"Standards and achievement are important, but we love to promote and celebrate creativity and diversity as we prepare our students for life and the ever-changing international world of work, not simply examinations.

"Like all of us, the school is on a learning journey, constantly updating our curriculum and improving the ways in which learning is facilitated. We use the very latest educational research as well as the best practice from the UK education system, and we believe our offer to students is unique. My own background includes over 28 years of experience in leadership and teaching the English Curriculum, and our entirely British leadership team bring the best this has to offer to our international school in Qatar.

"We are well aware of the excellent reputation QIS has here in Doha but that doesn’t mean we are complacent. On the contrary, it is the motivation for us to raise the bar even higher and to expect only the very best from our staff and students.

"We are proud of our traditions and we continue to uphold standards in attendance, punctuality and presentation. Our students must be at school, on time, to learn properly and they should also be appropriately dressed. However, we also believe, wholeheartedly, that education should be fun, challenging and rewarding. It is the best way to motivate students and instil into them a life-long love and passion for learning.

"A significant part of the school ethos is to build this enjoyment into our development to engage learners at all levels. We aim to establish positive relationships and create and nurture independence in all our learners, which will carry them forward and stay with them into the future.

"The QIS family is always happy to welcome parents and visitors to the school site. We love to demonstrate and share our special atmosphere and friendly environment. When visiting us, please let us know in advance so that we can make sure the right person is available to deal with your enquiry.

"We look forward to seeing you in the future."

– Mr DCM Baker, Principal
