Background

The British School of Tashkent (BST) is an international school in Tashkent, Uzbekistan. Established in August 2010, the school was launched as a high-achieving British school where children of all nationalities may learn in an inspiring and stimulating environment. The school follows the English National Curriculum, with students taking their IGCSE and AS/A-Level exams in secondary school and sixth form. BST also delivers the Uzbek curriculum, providing Uzbek students with the Attestat certificate. The school serves over 40 different expatriate and local families in Tashkent for children aged 18 months to 18 years and is situated on two campuses in the suburbs of Mirzo Ulugbek district.

As part of Nord Anglia, BST is a family of more than 80 international schools located in over 30 countries around the world. As such, we educate students for a changing, global world through collaborations with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), The Julliard School and UNICEF.

Curriculum

BST offers a contemporary British international education based upon the English National Curriculum for students in Early Years through to Year 13. In Early Years, a flexible pre-nursery enrolment option is also available for children who join at 1.5 years.

The primary school offers English, Mathematics, Science, History, Geography and Personal, Social, Health and Economic Education (PSHE). These subjects are taught by classroom teachers. Specialist teachers support learning by teaching Art, Design and Technology, Music, Drama, ICT, Physical Education, French, Spanish and Russian.

Secondary school students follow a full range of courses leading to IGCSE examinations from Pearson Edexcel and Cambridge Assessment International Education. Students sit IGCSE examinations at the end of Year 11. In Years 12 and 13, they pursue AS and A-Levels.

BST is registered and licensed with the Ministry of Education in Uzbekistan and the Qualification and Curriculum Development Agency in the UK. The school is a fully approved member of COBIS, CAIE and Edexcel centre.

Fees

For the 2023/2024 academic year, annual fees range from UZS 81,900,000 for Pre-Nursery (Half-Day) to UZS 225,012,000 for Year 13. Fees are paid annually or per term. There is a one-time application fee of UZS 550,000 for CAT4 testing.

From the principal

"I am absolutely delighted with the outstanding results of our 16-,17- and 18-year-olds. Ten years after the school first opened, our students have demonstrated our British values and worked hard to fulfil their potential despite the challenges of the pandemic.

"I am especially proud of our first cohort of A-Level students, who have been ambitious and resilient throughout. They will now do us proud as global citizens at universities across the world. Our students have been offered places at universities as diverse as University College London (UK), IDC Herzliya University (Israel), Science Po (France) Yonsei University (South Korea) and University of Birmingham (Dubai).

"I hope to see many of our students returning to Tashkent to inspire future generations. I am also optimistic that our leading alumni will choose to send their children to the British School of Tashkent to build on the heritage of achievement and success."

– Dr Andre Nel, Principal at BST

From the parents

"From the beginning, both our twins were given a warm and thoughtful welcome. The teachers are excellently trained and have the skills to combine different cultures, languages and backgrounds of their students into a cohesive learning community. I especially want to emphasize the personalised approach to learning for each child. BST provides excellent materials, books, equipment, learning resources and the latest computer technology. Sports, Music, Languages, Humanities, Creative and Performing Arts, IT, Design and Technology, Sciences and Mathematics are encouraged equally, which gives children the opportunity to realise their individual talents and strengths."

– Parents of Julian and Karolina Lorenz (Y3).
