Background

King's College, The British School of Madrid teaches the English National Curriculum, including the IGCSE and A-Levels, as well as the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme. The school is situated just 20 minutes from Central Madrid.

Alongside day school, King's College also offers boarding facilities in the form of a purpose-built residence hall situated on campus. This makes the school an ideal choice for expat families who don't have an international school in their local area.

In the 2021 British Schools Overseas Inspection by Penta International, an inspectorate body accredited by the British Government, King's College was rated outstanding in every category.

Curriculum

King's College teaches the National English Curriculum, with the option of the International Baccalaurate (IB) in Sixth Form. Both the British and the IB systems are highly respected worldwide and taught all over the globe, easing school transfers should the family relocate in future.

The structure of the King's College curriculum by year group is as follows:

  • Early Years Foundations Stage: Pre-nursery, Nursery and Reception, ages 2 to 5
  • Key Stage 1: Year 1 and 2, ages 5 to 7
  • Key Stage 2: Years 3 to 6, ages 7 to 11
  • Key Stage 3: Years 7 to 9, ages 11 to 14
  • Key Stage 4 (Cambridge IGCSE): Years 10 and 11, ages 14 to 16
  • Sixth Form (A-Levels/IB): Years 12 and 13, ages 16 to 18

For the 2022/2023 academic year, termly fees range from EUR 2,405 for Nursery to EUR 4,800 for Year 13 A-Levels., or EUR 5,885 for Year 13 International Baccalaureate. From the headteacher

"The best way to tell whether you like a school is to come along and see it for yourself. King’s College, The British School of Madrid offers a high-quality academic education and prepares your children for life beyond school.

"We help young people to develop the ambition to compete with their peers from Europe, Asia and America and every year our 18-year-old leavers go on to a wide variety of elite universities in the UK, Spain and the USA. They carry with them impressive personal qualities which ensure that they are in pole position in an increasingly competitive global job market. I am proud of the fact that all of our pupils have the confidence to look adults in the eye and engage in a mature conversation, whether they are speaking English or Spanish.

"Visitors to King’s College, The British School of Madrid often comment on our welcoming atmosphere, the friendliness of our school and the positive relationships between pupils and staff. Learning to co-operate, be part of a team and to respect other people and yourself are central to our mission.

"King’s College, The British School of Madrid offers the academic rigour along with the values and traditions of a top independent school in England. But like the best schools in the UK, we are a thoroughly modern, affordable, unpretentious organisation looking to the future and not interested in congratulating ourselves on past glories.

"It would be a pleasure to welcome you to King’s College, The British School of Madrid on an ordinary working day. Preparing young people for life is what we do best. I hope we have the opportunity to do the same for your child."

– Matthew Taylor, Headteacher
