Background
Founded in 1986, German International School New York (GISNY) is a top choice for those looking to develop or maintain their children's German-language skills. GISNY has a dual-diploma programme, allowing students to graduate with both the German International Abitur and the American High School Diploma. Students are then eligible to apply at universities in Germany and the USA.
Class sizes are kept small and therefore places are limited. Applications can be made throughout the year, but children may be placed on a waiting list. There is a German-language ability requirement for some grades. Applicants for Grades 1 to 4 must have a basic understanding of German, while children in Grades 5 and up must be fluent in German to gain admission. There is no German requirement for Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students.
