There is a range of companies to choose from when shipping belongings and furnishings to Johannesburg. Aspects such as the volume of goods, distance between origin and destination, and method of shipping will affect cost. Air freight is fast but expensive, while sea freight is much cheaper but also much slower.
For some expats, the ideal solution is splitting up their possessions, with essentials being transported by air and less essential, bulkier items by sea. Be aware that customs clearance time is hard to predict and may delay shipments even further.
Shipping goods to Johannesburg

South Africa is home to eight commercial ports, with the Durban, Cape Town, and Port Elizabeth ports being the busiest in the country. Johannesburg is landlocked, but it’s easy to have your goods shipped from any of the major port cities into the city.
Expats moving to Johannesburg are eligible for duty-free shipping to South Africa as long as the goods have been used for more than six months before the shipment. You’ll need to have a detailed packing inventory and provide proof of ownership and usage of the goods.

Shipping pets to Johannesburg
To ship pets to South Africa, a valid import permit and veterinary health certificate must be presented. You’ll also need to provide proof that dogs and cats entering the country are vaccinated against rabies and implanted with a microchip.
If the required documentation cannot be presented to the authorities, pets may be quarantined. They will then only be released once the documentation has been received. In addition, dogs from certain countries are subject to a standard quarantine as a matter of course.
