My husband ahs been offered a job in Luanda and we're trying to decide if venturing into this part of Africa is worth it. The salary he has been offered sounds really great, but I've heard Angola is very expensive to live in. Anyone got any experiences of living in Luanda they can share and what the cost of living in Angola is like....

Hi Expats !

I am Canadian citizen looking to accept a job offer to work in Dubai in a couple of months. Can anyone advise me on how I go about getting the correct permits. What documents do I need to have ready to apply for my work visa ? And once I get a work visa does that include permenant residency in Dubai as well ?

Also how long does the visa for Dubai usually take to process ? I am getting quite worried as there is now not much time left before I leave. Any personal insights would be really helpful.

Thanks

Retiring in Austria?

Expert Info

Destination: Austria
I just read Stephen Patriarca's (UK Expat)interview on moving and retiring in Austria. Stephen made particular comment about deciding where to have one's pension taxed - but didn't comment further. Can annyone give advice on the suitable pension options for for a UK Expat retiring in Austria? What should I look out for? There are a lot of QROPS providers offering "great benefits", but start up and annual costs are high. Is a UK SIPP better, particularly if the fund amount is not significant. Also Austrian tax kicks in at 36.5% after the first Euro 11,000.

Destination: Taiwan
My BFF went over to Taiwan with her company and wants me to go over there as well - my question is do I need to find a job first or can I just go over on a tourist visa and stay with her for a while I look for a job? How easy is it to find a job if I don't speak Taiwanese and can I change my visa while I'm there - is this a feasible way to go about it? Thanx!

Hi All, I am looking for info regarding an IT professional who is HepB positive ( but in a non-infectious state) which means that the virus is inactive. So would such a person be able to get a work permit or not? Who has the final say in whether a HepB positive person can get a work permit or not? the employer or the qatari gov? I have had conflicting reports from different portals on the internet and cant seems to find the right answer. Any authentic answer would be really appreciated. Z

Plausible to move to Hong Kong?

Expert Info

Destination: Hong Kong
I have a friend that moved to HK over a year ago who loves it there and constantly tells me to visit or move over, I'm basically wondering if its possible to just move over there without massive pre preparation and a job offer already on the cards? I'm a bar manager currently but don't have a full degree so the common financial sector type job isn't open to me, I'd basically be hoping for a bar job or go for teaching english, is it likely I could get one not knowing mandarin/cantonese?

Confused about healthcare in Cyprus

Expert Info

Destination: Cyprus

I copied this from the info on this site and it has added to my confusion no end.....i have been informed that if we plan tosettle in Cyprus at the ages we are (55 & 56) we would have to get private health insurance but would be covered by an E106 for a couple of years. as my other half has some pre exiting heart conditions, private insurance is obviously going to be expensive.....HELP 'Expats who are EU citizens and permanent residents in Cyprus are eligible for free state healthcare in Cyprus, but they must register for a medical card to take advantage of this care'.

Accommodation in Jeddah: where to start?

Expert Info

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
Destination: Jeddah
Hi friends, do you have any recommendations on where to stay before securing housing? Secondly, what are the precise steps I should take to find housing and is the public transportation easy to navigate for a new expat?(I read the guide and perused various classifieds, but I am interested in some additional practical advice regarding Jeddah). Finally, how long can I expect it to take to move into my own place (I would like to find something between 35 to 45 thousand a year, and I am open to both compound and non-compound options).

How much I can save in HK on a salary of HKD 40000?

Expert Info

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
Destination: Hong Kong

Hi All, I am in talks with a prospective employer in HK and most probably I will get an offer around HKD 40,000 Per month. Though it is not clear at this point of time what other benefits my employer will provide me(like health care benefits etc). I am thinking of negotiating further to see if I can push it to 50K or 55K Per month. Do you see any scope for further negotiating on salary/benefits with my prospective employer beyond 40K per month.

Not including housing/taxes/transport, is $ 17.000 HKD/month enough to live and have fun in HK?

This is my lifestyle in my home town in Brazil: I'm used to go to restaurants 4-5 times/week, having lunch out everyday, going to nightclubs 2-3 times per week. The rare times I cook at home I mainly cook asian food. Do you think $ 17.000 HKD per month (excluding housing/taxes/transport) would be enough to keep that lifestyle?
