Cost and standard of healthcare in the USA?

Expert Info

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
Destination: The USA

My husband and I are moving from Britain to the US next year, and I'm VERY concerned about the standard/cost of healthcare in the US. The NHS has its problems, but let's be honest, it's cost-effective and in my experiences pretty accessible. Can anyone recommend a good course of action when it comes to healthcare?

Hi all... For some reason, I've always had this desire to live and work for a while in Moscow, and now it looks like I might be able to organise a teaching job if everything goes well...

I want to know if there are any major, major cons (downsides) to living in Moscow!!  Should I go for it?

Bringing Teenagers to Angola?

Expert Info

Destination: Angola
Hi-

My husband and I have just had an offer with Shell to move to Angola for a 2-year contract. It looks to be pretty gloomy place and as much as I'd feel horrible about leaving my 16-year-old behind, I think it might be the best possible option.

From what I've read, there's very few teenagers that do move with their parents to Angola, and those that do, have a hard time of it. The schools - especially for high schoolers - seem subpar and social circles non-existant.

Can anyone confirm or advise....

Earthquakes in Japan?

I'm supposed to start Teaching English in Tokyo next month and have been getting increasingly FREAKED out given the MASSIVE earthquakes that keep splitting apart poor Japan. I keep reading in the news that they've mainly effected the norther part of the island, but can any expats living in Tokyo give me an indication of the state of affairs? Should I continue with my plans or put them on halt and look to Korea or Thailand?

How safe is Johannesburg, what's the safety situation in South Africa?

Expert Info

Thinking of moving to South Africa, but worried about the safety situation in Johannesburg as I will be moving with my partner. I hear the safety in Johannesburg is not too good, what is the situation in reality? Are hijackings and muggings a risk. How about burglary? Are there safe places to live in Johannesburg? Can one walk around the city safely? It would be great to get a balanced opinion from someone who has lived there. Many thanks in advance for your advice.

I am planning a move to Sydney and want to find out about renting an apartment there. I will be staying with a distant relation for the first couple of weeks in Double Bay area, but I need to find somewhere to live asap. How easy is it to rent in Sydney; I assume there are decent estate agents. I am 26 and single and just want a small apartment somewhere central - can someone suggest a good neighbourhood to live in sydney and also give an indication of rental prices? Thank you. Melissa

Hello, my wife has been offered a job in Lagos, Nigeria and is trying to encourage me to go with him, plus our two children! I am not sure if I am mad to even be considering moving to Nigeria! Am I? One of my many concerns is finding an international English school for my children - Age six and seven. I think the company will pay the school fees, but I also want to make sure education is good enough and they may enjoy it...

I have a job opportunity in Bahrain but as you can imagine I am a bit concerned due to the recent reports of violence there. If there is anyone reading this post from Bahrain, could you reply with advice on safety in Bahrain - how bad is the situation - has it been exaggerated by the press? Best, Tom

Women, work and driving in Saudi Arabia

Expert Info

Submitted by RW-admin on
Destination: Jeddah

Hi. I worked in Saudi Arabia in 1998-1999. Back then I remember that women were not allowed to work (publicly), nor drive etc.

Besides the more accepted nursing & teaching jobs, there were a few "back office" marketing jobs, browsing convenience stores, working from home type jobs.

Does anyone know if things have become more relaxed lately?
