Moving to Mexico w/ Autistic son

Expert Info

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
Destination: Mexico

I am planning to move to Mexico, not sure exactly where yet, but hopefully near the beach, pretty safe and in more of an urban area, that is not incredibly humid!! I expect humidity, but one of the areas with a little less!  I have a 9yr old son with Autism, not severe, but still requires services and he gets SSI through Social Security for himself and I also get SSDI Social Security because of Lupus. I get my money, regardless, but I found out that he will not.

My name is Mark, my wife and I are both UK citizens who have lived in the UK all our lives but are keen to immigrate to Canada as it has been my dream for years and my wife is just as excited about the prospect as I am. I am stepping way out my comfort zone with this and don't really know 100% how to go about the whole process to be honest.

Hi,

My husband has just secured a six month contract in KL expiring in August, 2018.  The contract has a high possibility of being extended, which is when our 8 year old son and I will then plan on joining him (from Australia).  A couple of questions please:-

1.  We are looking at an international school.  When does the school year start, and when should we start applying to schools?

Primary Language in Oman for business

Destination: Oman

Hi,

Just would like to ask and verify what type of language is used in Oman? Is it primarily Arabic or are they already accustomed to the English language? Does one have to learn the Arabic language as a requirement to work there?

Hope to get a good picture of Oman.

Thank you.

Hi everybody !

As part of my studies and in order to prepare my forthcoming departure to Tianjin, I would need to interview some expatriates who have stayed in China for at least one year or who are still in the country.

That would be a pleasure to exchange with you about this experience !

Hello,

My husband might be relocated to HCMC from USA, we have two children, middle and high school, so I was researching the International Schools in HCMC and found at least four American Schools - TAS, ISHCMC, ISHCMC American Academy and South Saigon International School. I'd really appreciate some input on these schools. I'm specially confused with the two ISHCMC schools... Any advice?

Thanks in advance!

Hi there,

We are moving to Rome in February with our two young children and will have a month to find a place to live. I would like to know whether we will need an Italian bank account before we can rent somewhere, and whether that will be a complicated process? We are excited but a little apprehensive about everything we will need to get done in a short time and would appreciate any advice.

Many thanks!

How do I buy a car in France?

Expert Info

Submitted by Anneka on
Destination: France

Hi,

I am going to be living in France and have the possibility to buy a used car but haven't moved into my new accommodation yet. I understand that you need to get a "Carte grise". Do you have to wait until you have actually moved in to be able to provide a proof of address and proceed? And which do you have to start with, insurance or carte grise?

Thanks and kind regards!

Best neighborhoods for families in San Francisco?

Expert Info

Submitted by Bina on
Destination: San Francisco, CA

My family and I are moving to San Francisco later at the start of next year Jan 2019. We have 2 children under 3 and are looking at areas to live. Where do people recommend? We're looking for a safe neighbourhood, with good pre-schools, parks, houses with decent gardens, and a village-like feel...

My husband will be working near Union Square, so ideally would like a maximum commute of 1hr.

I would be grateful for Suggestions

Thanks

Advice for Making Friends in Doha?

Expert Info

Submitted by Margie2018 on

Hi there,

My husband is considering employment in Doha, which comes with family status.

As our  children are 20 and 22 they will remain in our home in Australia, so I won't have young children to help make new friends through at mums groups, school etc.

Are there many expat ladies in late 40's early 50's in Doha? What does everyone do to keep busy and make friends? Are there any recommended groups to join?

Daunting to leave family and friends behind an start again at 54! Any advice welcome.

How does the cost of living in Norway compare to Switzerland?

Can anyone give advice on how the living cost in Oslo relates to the living cost in Switzerland?

My partner and I will move to Oslo because I got a job in a higher position there; nevertheless, the salary is about 10'000 CHF / 86'000 NOK lower than my current Swiss salary. We are a little bit worried about the loss of our current quality of life.

Hi Expats,

I’m new to this forum, so sorry in case I have posted any silly questions. My question and scenario is: My employer (via agent) applied for my EP which was rejected some days back. One week later, employer have appealed on EP rejection. This all efforts are good, but the problems are

1. how can employee track status of appeal?

2. Can employee use passport details to check the appeal status?

3. Or is there any possibility that employer never appealed and employee have to wait for long duration?

Hi All,

I would like to know what is the atmosphere like for black expats living in Johannesburg.

Is there any area to avoid? I understand it is not as extreme as it used to be, but I am reading online of places that invite black people to leave, such as restaurants and the alike.

Thanks a lot for your answers!

Remote working and visas in Seoul?

Expert Info

Submitted by clarapart2 on
Destination: Seoul

A question that's a little confusing. I'm based in the UK and am looking to take a break next year and live somewhere else for a little while (literally like 2 or 3 months) and wanted to head to Seoul. Been there a number of times now and think being there for a longer duration would be amazing.

To support living costs during my trip and the costs I'll still have in the UK during my Seoul stay, I'm thinking about working remotely part-time for the company I already work for. The company I already work for are based in the UK and I'll be paid in GBP as will my normal income taxes.
