Cost of budget housing in Jeddah

Expert Info

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
Destination: Jeddah
I have recently signed a contract to work at KAU in Jeddah. The housing allowance is 17,000 SAR for the entire year. Posters on another forum have told me this is not much. I will be working by myself with no family and my lifestyle is spartan to put it mildly. I'd like to be within 2-3 miles of the school if possible but I get a transportation allowance so I could go further out. 1. Is it possible to rent an efficiency unit for this amount of money? If so, would it include utilities? 2. Do people with larger apartments or homes ever advertise for roommates?

Base salary benchmark Saudi Arabia

Expert Info

Destination: Saudi Arabia
Been trying to find this for some time. I am currently making 150k euro (excluding bonus) + car in Austria. Based on some job adverts (similar role, Jeddah based) i suspect i should aim roughly at 200k euro base (which would then be tax free). Is there some kind of formula which would say: local salary x 1.x = reasonably competitive KSA salary? I heard somewhere that typically people make 3x more in KSA than at home... this would roughly mean 1.5x correction factor then (assuming taxes roughly at 50%) 150k... = 80k net... x3 = 240k...

Destination: Abu Dhabi
Hello friends, need a really quick favour from you guys. I received an offer from one of the firms in Abu Dhabi. They conducted all the background screening and security checks...all of which came positive. Now the problem is that I am on probation period in my current organisation in India and will get confirmed in the next 2 weeks. The notice period for a confirmed employee is 90 days in my current firm. So, the Abu Dhabi firm had asked me put down my resignation before I get confirmed in my current organisation in order to avoid the 90 day notice period.

Are there any expat legal forums for UK Lawyers seeking work in Australia (Sydney)?

Expert Info

I am a solicitor qualified to practice in England and Wales, and I am in the process of qualifying as a solicitor in NSW. In the meantime I am looking for legal experience. Ideally this would be as a paralegal, legal clerk, legal assistant or other in a solicitor's practice or barrister's chambers. I am having real difficulty getting work and/or experience and this is despite having 10 years of litigation experience in the UK. Maybe it is because my experience is mainly in the criminal law field.

Hi- I don't seem to have a clear idea about the tax slabs in Malaysia. I am looking to move to KL from India. Is my understanding that tax levy will be outright 26% on the salary amount, correct? Also does the salary structure in Malaysia accomodate any tax-free components(housing allowance, travel etc.)

What are my chances of getting a job in Kuala Lumpur?

Expert Info

Destination: Kuala Lumpur
I recently arrived in KL from the UK with my partener as he has a job here. I have been finding it hard to find a suitable job as I don't have a degree, I do have a foundation degree which is in IT, Physics and Quantitative Methodods however my experience is in both working in a school with children aged 3-11 and in administration with the Inland Revenue in the UK. Most of the job posts I see require a degree however I am 33 now and have alot of work experience but this doesn't seem to count for much. Any help or advice in the right direction would be great. Thanks Louise
