Any personal experience with British schools in Singapore?

Expert Info

Submitted by The Seneschal on
Destination: Singapore
Hi, we're just trying to find out whether a move to Singapore would work for us and would love to hear personal experience and advice. We have had three years in Europe so have done a move before. We're British with four children. We have two who from Sept would be yr 7 and 9 at a selective all girls grammar school. No3 child will be yr 6 and taking the 11+ with the hope that he would be getting a place at a selective all boys grammar and then no4 child will just be starting primary school. My main worry is schooling. Would anyone recommend or avoid any particular schools?

Hi,

I'm French and got offered my dream job in London last week and I am due to start at the beginning of July. How does the UK's referendum effect my working rights?

Also, what is the feeling like on the ground? Will there now be more hostility towards foreigners working in the UK?

Please help!

How do I get permanent residency in South Africa?

Hey there,

I moved in Cape Town in 2005 for an internship and fell in love with the place. I moved here the next year and have been living in SA on and off for the last decade. I've had various different permits - volunteer, work permit, exceptional skills and life partner... But I am told that even after 10 years I am not eligable for PR because I need to have been on the same permit for consecutive years.

Is this true ? I certainly doesn't seem fair!

Hi, we get loads of questions about the best areas and suburbs for expats to live in within Dubai, so we're starting this thread with a few comments from our contributors:

Q: Which are the best places/suburbs to live in the city as an expat?
A: Dubai Marina is the best place to live as an expat. But for those expats with families or those expats who want to live in a villa, Jumeirah or Umm Sequim are more suitable areas. (Emily is a young American woman living in Dubai)

My husband and I are moving to Berlin and, since the process to get any type of Visa takes time, how can we get set up to still receive mail? We'll be living in a temporary housing situation (like Air BnB) so we can't register to receive mail there. Thanks!

We're not particular about sticking to a particular curriculum. Also, if you've had any bad experiences in schools, we'd love to hear of them. Thank you!

Has anybody attended DIT or another school? I'm looking into getting my masters in information systems/data analysis. In the US I would have to get another undergrad before being able to apply for a masters. We don't have any pre-masters programs. I'm assuming this would also affect my job hunt. Any help would be great!!

Hi, We are planning to move to Oslo and wondering about schooling for my 4 yr old daughter. Our intention is to be in Oslo for 3-4 years. I need to understand what type of school/curriculum should we go for? An International School or a local private school offering Norwegian curriculum? We are worried if we go ahead with local curriculum, how easy or difficult would be for my daughter to adapt to a different curriculum after we leave Oslo (i work for a MNC so might keep changing location). Thanks, V

I am considering whether I should send my daughters to summer schools. They have 3-month-vacation and I'm too busy to take care of them. Does anyone here have some information about the summer courses? I want a course that provides more outdoor activities or something around than academic lessons. p/s: I'm living in HCMC - Vietnam. I've just come here 6 months ago. Cheers
