Hey there,
I moved in Cape Town in 2005 for an internship and fell in love with the place. I moved here the next year and have been living in SA on and off for the last decade. I've had various different permits - volunteer, work permit, exceptional skills and life partner... But I am told that even after 10 years I am not eligable for PR because I need to have been on the same permit for consecutive years.
Is this true ? I certainly doesn't seem fair!

As you can see a lot of people have received offers from them and the one person who's come forward claiming to work for them hasn't been able to provide any proof of that, or that they're legitimate.
Both www.mcoxlegal.co.za (supposedly the web address of the lawyers they use) and www.zuec.co.za (the company website) now bring up a page that says account suspended. Which is also fishy and might mean that they're linked (legal firm website to make them look legitimate?).
You'll notice a few months ago (near the top of this thread) when I first answered a question regarding Zulu Exploration I advised that in some cases, SA companies do ask future employees to pay for their visas - but with the amount of people posting on this forum about Zulu Exploration, along with the general fishiness of their whole operation, I would say it's probably best to look for other opportunities. They've obviously put a lot of effort into making themselves look legitimate (phone numbers, address, legal firms, etc), but looking at the offices on Google Maps, the building is just a generic office building and it'd be easy for anyone to claim that's their office address.
Can anyone who's been offered a job with them confirm if they interview over Skype? Or, what's the application process before they offer a job? Is it quite a thorough process or not really?

What permit are you currently on? How long have you been on that permit?
It may not seem fair but you have to have been on the same type of permit for five consecutive years to be eligable for Permenent Residency. Also bear in mind there were lots of changes that took place in 2014, some permits are now not renewable.
Please get back to me with more information and hopefully we can find you a solution.

Yes, it is quite common for South African employers to ask their prospective in employees to bear their own costs for their visa - however, they will need to help you with some documentation, such as proof that a South African could not fill the position you are taking up. For more information, have a look at the Expat Arrivals Work Visas for South Africa page.
