Buying a house in UK with USA Dollars?

Expert Info

Submitted by Lyn on
Destination: The United Kingdom
After 22 years in the USA I want to go home. However this is proving harder than I thought. I have my cottage up for sale in the USA, but until that sells I wont have the money to buy something in the UK. First hurdle seems to be the impossibility of opening a bank account in the UK unless you already live there! (Can't LIVE there till I buy a house!!). So if I sell here, my question is - can I use a transfer of money from USA bank to pay for purchase of house in the UK? I know I will incur costs doing it this way but.....

How well will I manage in Copenhagen with a 30 000 DKK a month?

Expert Info

Submitted by Liinas on

Hi! I've been offered a job in Copenhagen with a salary of 30 000 DKK gross (approx. 19 000 DKK net). It's notably less than I asked for and I'm trying to figure out if it will be worth to consider this job nonetheless. I'd be okay with a furnished studio within a reasonable distance from my work, close to Copenhagen University. Being 35, I'd rather avoid shared accommodation if possible. I do have financial commitments that I would still have to take care of at home, so I'd need an estimate for the living costs of a single person.

Homeschooling in Argentina?

Expert Info

Submitted by SSKopan on
Destination: Argentina
Hi,
I just saw an article on education in Argentina and it stated that homeschooling was NOT an option! I'm a bit confused since I came across another article by HSLDA which stated " There is no legislation that expressly prohibits homeschooling in Argentina" Then it went on to add that there ARE families that homeschool. Any thoughts on this? My kids are currently homeschooled and I'd like to continue that. However, if it's illegal, then we'd respect the laws of the country on this. Any thoughts? Can anyone give me some specifics?
Thanks :)

Advice on shipping personal belongings to South Africa?

Expert Info

Submitted by nilanjansircar on
Destination: Johannesburg
Hi, I will be moving to Johannesburg in November 2016. I am currently staying in Tel Aviv , Israel, and planning to post (by sea) our personal belongings (clothes, kitchen utensils, books, toys etc) in September. As the post can reach well before we arrive in Johannesburg, we are planning to send it to my colleague, who has kindly agreed to receive it. Any one has any idea if it will complicate matter with customs as I am not sending it to myself. Also, the post office here in Israel mentions that South Africa does not allow to send used clothes and shoes?

What are the most authentic parts of Spain?

Expert Info

Submitted by Battersea59 on
Destination: Spain
Hi, My husband and I are seriously considering moving to Spain to retire and to that end are becoming increasingly fluent in the language. We have both lived in different countries - UK, Italy, Canada, US - and don't see moving to a foreign country as a huge step. However, we don't know Spain very well and would like to move to a city/large town where we can consult or teach business English, while at the same time living in a villa rather than an apartment. We also don't want to be in a place that is over-run by tourists but has a somewhat quiet, authentic feel to it.
