Hey there,

As the beginning of this year I was offered an exciting job offer in China which I accepted. I'm due to move from London to Shanghai in July with my wife and daughter.

I'm now a little concerned about the move because of the Corona Virus situation. We've already set the wheels in motion in terms of finding accommodation and applying to schools, etc. Now, I'm wondering whether we need to put the brakes on the relocation process.

Are there any expats currently in Shanghai that can offer some insights? What are feelings on the ground? Is it safe?

Perhaps my concerns are a little far-fetched at this early stage but it would be great to have a few other perspectives.

Thanks in advance,

Smith

Hi Smith,

July is still a fair few months away so its hard to say just yet what the situation will be. That said, moving overseas requires forward planning so I can understand why you are stressed.

At present, a most flights to China have been canceled and many people have left. The US Department of State and the British foreign office have advised against all travel to China.

Where are you from? I would monitor your government's advice on the situation and see if this changes as it gets closer to July.

Have you contacted your employer to see what they say about operations in China? Perhaps they have an alternative plan for their employees.

Good luck. Let us know how you get on.
