Can anyone advise an Australian family moving to Athens with real estate options, visas, schools, etc.?

Expert Info

Submitted by Darren Toy on
Destination: Greece

Hi everyone, we are an Australian family looking to move to Athens in January next year... however, we have so many questions about the move to Greece. As we can not travel, we are looking for someone to assist and give us advice on recommended real estate agents and an attorney to help with visas and paperwork for Greece. Are there any recommendations of locations and areas to live and stay in Athens, such as those close to the beach? We are hoping to buy a villa, we want to be close to shops, restaurants, bars and so on..

Are there major language barriers in Sweden?

Hello, I would like to know if there are major language barriers in Sweden? I do no speak Swedish or any other Scandinavian language, and I am considering if it is worth learning some Swedish before travelling to Sweden. Is English widely spoken in Sweden? I am also wondering if there are more job opportunities (or better-paid jobs) for expats who understand at least basic Swedish, or if English would be enough? I'm also aware that the cost of living in Stockholm is high, so would be hoping for a decent salary to cover my living expenses.

Thanks

What's the best way to find a job in Kenya?

Submitted by on
Destination: Kenya

Hello everyone! I would like to move to Kenya, it's somewhere I have always wanted to go and I have a friend there, but I am wondering about the economy. What is the job market like and how easy is it to secure a job in Kenya? I would like to work in the NGO sector but have a range of skill sets and qualifications. Would you recommend I start looking for work before moving there or can I find work once I arrive? Any info on getting visas and work permits for Kenya would also be greatly appreciated!

Thanks in advance!

Hello all,

I am Japanese and have been living in the UK for 25 years and am a British national now. We are planning to divorce soon. After the divorce, I am thinking of moving to Italy, if possible.

Can someone give me advice on moving to Italy without using my husbands help? Can I move to Italy on my own? And can I legally work in Italy?

Thank you and wait for your advice.

Is it easy for an expat to rent in Kenya?

Submitted by on
Destination: Kenya

Hello all! I am thinking of moving to Kenya for a few months for a work opportunity, but don't know where to start looking regarding housing. I don't mind if it's in a house or an apartment, and I don't mind doing a flatshare if need be (are flatshares and houseshares common in Nairobi?) I am wondering how easy it is to rent in Kenya. What documents will I likely need? Will I need to show a bank statement or proof that I am creditworthy to rent? If anyone on the forum has advice on paying utilities, including water and electricity, and deposits in Nairobi that would be appreciated!

Should I get public or private healthcare in Qatar?

Destination: Qatar

Good day all,

I am looking for advice on hospitals and healthcare in Qatar. I have seen that public healthcare in Doha is largely subsidised, if not free. Is that true, and, if so, how can I access the state healthcare system? Is the health card quite easy to get?

As an expat, will I need to arrange for my medical insurance by myself in Doha and is it really necessary if I already have a health card? Which would you recommend, public or private healthcare in Qatar?

Thank you in advance.

What are the schools in Doha like?

Submitted by taylor1 on
Destination: Doha

Hello! I would like to ask about the schools in Qatar, specifically in Doha. What are the best education options in Doha? Can I send my children to a public school in Doha? I have heard that public schools are excellent and children benefit from having great teachers and resources in the classrooms, and they learn in both English and Arabic. Is this true? My children are young and I would love for them to have bilingual education. I also understand that public school or independent school education in Qatar is free, but probably difficult for an expatriate to enrol in.

Hi everyone I want someone that could help guide me. I am looking to move to Makkah with my family next year if things go to plan. I have been there on pilgrimage a few times but never lived there. I would like to know how hard is it to get a visa to live there. I don't want to work there as I can sustain myself from my business in the UK, I would just like to live there so I can volunteer in the mosque and spend my time in doing good.

What are schools in Barcelona like for older children?

Hello all,

We are hoping to move to Barcelona (city) at the end of this year for work and family reasons. We have a boy who will be 12, and a girl who will be 10 by the time we move. With older children I feel that an international school may be our only option, although the cost may be prohibitive for us.

Is there a bus service from Paphos Airport to Larnaca?

I have often used the Kapnos Airport Shuttle (https://www.kapnosairportshuttle.com/) travelling between Paphos Airport and Larnaca, and I found them to be an excellent service, and very reasonable €15.00, but I see now on their website their timetable has been reduced considerably due to Covid 19, and they don't operate every day.

Does anyone in the forum know what is required for a western expat to work as a therapist, psychotherapist, psychologist in Taiwan?  Additionally, I would like to own or be the controlling Director (if expat's cannot be majority owners) of this therapy company to allow for a private practice style of office.  I am American and speak English only.  I am interested in Taiwan and having my practice in Taipei, but I am very open to other city suggestions if there is a location outside Taipei that has ample English language expats or locals.  I looked through the forum h

Hi, I have an expatriate package offer to work in Krakow, Poland. The company offered me accommodation, meals & air ticket allowances, plus at net pay of 40,000.00 Polish złoty, it is stated as monthly salary.  A contract of 8 years is offered by the company and I am requested to submit my information and also the application form and contract agreement back to the company, may I seek your advice on this, is this a realistic figure that the company offered me, I suppose this 40,000.00PZ is an annual compensation amount.

Thank you.

Do public schools in Montreal provide help and support services to immigrants?

Hi. We are migrating to Canada and have chosen Montreal as our destination. As my children have only studied in English, will there be any assistance available at the public schools to help them learn French from scratch? I have a 10 and 12 yr old. Which grades will they be eligible for? Which schools should I be looking at. Can I arrange for admissions while I am still outside Canada?

What are main aspects of living, transport and lifestyle like in Qatar and Doha?

What is it really like to live in Qatar? I know that there have been so many changes leading up to the 2022 FIFA football world cup and that the country is developing and modernising its services at an exceptionally rapid pace. Does this affect normal living, like is there lots of noise with construction, does it affect traffic/roadworks? On that note, what is the best and most convenient way to get around Doha? Should I hire a car or just get around using taxis or Uber in the capital city?

Hiya,

I am looking for advice on renting / leasing a 2 bedroom apartment as I haven’t been able to find anything of certain by browsing online.

I am moving to Abu Dhabi with a female friend so we are planning to share a flat.

Do landlords or agencies accept two friends sharing an apartment and going on a lease as friends? Similar way like we can in Uk for example?

Are there any hidden costs associated with leasing a flat?
