Pointers for possible move to the USA?

Expert Info

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
Destination: The USA
I know this a very broad question and one thats also been well worn, so apologies but any assistance and pointers would be greatly apprecited. I'm a single, never married 46 year old man with no kids (ergo no luggage) and I've got a bit disillusioned with life in the UK, so I look over the pond and think maybe life could be more rewarding and oportunities greater in USA. Is this relaistic or "Grass greener" I'm a professional engineer in the construction industry so the skills are transferable but I think the employment question is a different discussion.

What kind of healthcare will I have access to in Italy?

I am a new resident (with residency) in Umbria, Italy and because my husband still commutes to UK for work he is not classified as a resident. We are not retired (therefore no pension) however he obviously provides my financial support. The S1 form that was once provided from UK tax office giving expats like for like medical benefits in Italy has now been stopped. Therefore I am not entitled to free health in Italy.

Will criminal record dropped in court affect visa?

Hi, I am currently in the process of moving to Korea. I will start teaching English there sometime in the Fall. However, I have to request a criminal background check from the FBI for the working visa process. I was arrested more than a year ago for a misdemeanor charge of marijuana procession 0-20. The charged was however dropped in court and it shows as "Nolle-Pros". My question is, will this affect my changes of obtaining a working visa from the Korean government? Thanks!

So I'm moving to Athens in the summer. This is the first time that I will have moved abroad so I'm just trying to figure out what I need to bring out with me and what I should leave in the UK and just buy when I get here! Its really the silly things that I am wondering about; small appliances, beds etc! Obviously I know that it's relatively easy to get hold of them, I was just wondering what others had done and whether they would choose that option again. Any insight would be very very helpful! Thanks in advance!

How do I find a traditional Chinese medicine doctor in Bangkok?

Expert Info

Submitted by Anonymous (not verified) on
Destination: Bangkok
I am a 71 year old US citizen coming to Thailand in search of a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) cure, or relief for my Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS). I am hoping to find the best TCM doctor, or hospital that is experienced with CFS. I am hoping you can help me with: 1. What doctor and hospital has the reputation of being the best in Bangkok, or Thailand for that matter. My ideal would be a practitioner whose ancestors were natural healers located on a remote mountain or secluded seaside. I know in the community there is usually a consensus on the "best" medical care.

Anybody know destination charges and custom fees for shipping a motorcycle to Croatia?

Hi, Moving to Croatia next month to study at Uni Zagreb. Will get student residence permit there as instructed by consulate. I'd like to ship my motorbike to use it there. Local maritime shipping companies have quoted me USD490 for Destination terminal handling charges for a 3 cubic metre crate delivered in Zagreb. They also quoted me USD185 for customs clearance (apparently this is the normal rate for someone who's going to live there and has the proper residence permit). Does anyone know about these things? Can you confirm whether these rates make sense or not? Thanks, Binkz

How do I negotiate a good salary in Oman?

Destination: Oman
Hi, I was wondering if you could provide me with some information about salaries in Oman for an aquaculture/fisheries/agriculture expert. My dad has been offered a job in Oman and how ever he doesn't know what type of salary and benefits he should request. He has a PhD in fisheries/aquaculture/environmental science from the UK with 28 years of experience in the UK/Middle Eat. His UK salary is around £45,000 (around 25,000 OMR). What do you think he should realistically request in term of salary and benefits. Many Thanks

How to respond to a 1099 sent to IRS? I have been in the Philippines since 2003. Before I left the States I paid all my balances and came to the Philippines. I had one credit card but paid that off. I called the credit card company in 2006 and the man said that my account had been closed in 2006 for none payment and the balance was written off. I did not know of any charges other than what I paid off.

How do I buy property in Thailand?

We are a Norwegian family who are doing some research into moving to Thailand for a longer period. Our dream is to buy a small resort close to the beach. Not one of those 5 star resorts, but rather a 2-3 star bungalow resort. Preferably a "fix'r up'r". We have looked at locations as Lanta, Samui, Hua Hin etc. We seem to have fastened a bit on Lanta for several reasons, like, the Swedish school, prices on such properties and the fact that its not as busy as Samui or Hua Hin, with that referring to traffic and being able to drive ourselves.
