How do I negotiate a good salary in Oman?

Hi, I was wondering if you could provide me with some information about salaries in Oman for an aquaculture/fisheries/agriculture expert. My dad has been offered a job in Oman and how ever he doesn't know what type of salary and benefits he should request. He has a PhD in fisheries/aquaculture/environmental science from the UK with 28 years of experience in the UK/Middle Eat. His UK salary is around £45,000 (around 25,000 OMR). What do you think he should realistically request in term of salary and benefits. Many Thanks

Hi Zapata, while I can't comment specifically on what a good salary would be for your father's position, I can suggest looking at our page on the cost of living in Oman. this will give you a break down of what is required to live a decent expat life in the country, and will give you some idea of what kind of salary is needed.

Generally, expat salaries in Oman have provision for things such as health insurance, accommodation and, in some instances, education and return flights home, but this all depends on the company, so it's worth investigating this further.
