Looking for advice on shipping my luggage out of China?

Expert Info

Destination: China
Hello, After several years here, I will be leaving China at the end of my contract in a few months time. I estimate that the goods I want to ship out are about 5 cubic meters. I am not in a hurry to get them at the other end and want to keep costs down. So ocean freight is what I am looking for. I would appreciate suggestions of a reliable trustworthy company that does freight forwarding from China? Very importantly, it needs to be a company that knows how to deal with Chinese Customs and give me advice on what paperwork to prepare. Thank you!

Possible to change a newly issued Student visa to a Z working visa?

Hey all I am wondering if anyone in Beijing knows if it is possible and legal to change an extended student visa in to a z working visa? (I've already graduated, but have chosen to extend my student visa longer for further 1 year studies) Reason being, I found a full time job in Beijing but made the money wasting mistake of extending my visa in China for 1 more year for language courses. Now that the company agrees to hire me on a z visa, (they will not take me as a student) is it still possible to change the newly issued student visa to a working visa and STILL attend classes?

Is a salary of AED20,000 per month enough for a family with 4 kids?

Hi, I have been offered a job with a salary of AED20,000. I have 4 kids aged 16, 13, 9 & 6. I am not sure yet if this offer includes any education or housing allowances as things are in the early stages yet. If this is the basic salary I would be coming out with could we afford to live in Abu Dhabi? We do not need to live a lavish lifestyle, just a few home comforts and occasional treats for the kids.

What's the work culture in Canada like?

Hi all, My partner and I are considering a move to Canada. He already has a job offer and I am looking. We are interested to know the differences in work culture compared to the UK and if possible Sweden (where we live now). Is it similar to the USA- long hours, hierarchical structure, political? We both work in the tech industry, one of us in development the other in project work. I know it depends on the organisation and role but if generalisations can be made we would be grateful to hear them :) Thanks in advance!

Resources for Barcelona visit soon?

Expert Info

Destination: Barcelona
I have started researching the possibility of retiring abroad, and Spain is one of the countries on my list. Very unexpectedly, I will have a chance to visit Barcelona for a few days at the end of July/beginning of August 2016. Any recommendations for people to meet about retirement options? Real estate agents, expats willing to offer advice, places and neighborhoods to see? I've never been to Spain and I don't speak Spanish -- it's on my list to learn, but not in time for this trip.

Philippines: Where do I start?

Expert Info

Destination: Philippines
I'm thinking of moving to the Philippines but I can't help but think of the life I might be giving up in my home country, Jamaica. Which parts of the Philippines are the safest? Does each house have clean drinking water & electricity available? Are faeces and urine paper and plastics handled responsibly and away from open sources of water to prevent pollution and infection? Is it easy to get a job after moving or is the job market preferential to locals? What if I learned to speak the language - will I still not be able to get the job because I'm not local?

Is it possible to homeschool your children in Tunisia?

Expert Info

Submitted by Beverley67 on
Destination: Tunisia
I am moving to Tunisia in September 2016 with 4 of my children. The two youngest will go to the British International School but I have a problem regarding my two oldest. One of them has just completed her GCSE's and the other would be going into year 10. I have looked at a number of online options which would enable them to continue their studies through distance learning. However I am getting conflicting information as to whether this is allowed in Tunisia or whether children have to attend a school of some sort. Please could someone give me any up to date information. Thanks

We are married with 3 girls of 9,7, and 4 years old. Please help. we need your advice to choose a calm place but not far and with a reasonable rent.

Can I enter Romania on a US passport without visa and apply for work permit once there?

Hi, I am an American citizen and moving to Romania for my new job. I spoke with someone in the Romanian Embassy in the U.S. yesterday about work permits and long-stay visas, but I just wanted to triple check I had understood her correctly. As a US citizen she said I do not need a long-stay visa to enter the country, but that I go ahead and enter on my passport and then once I am in Bucharest I will go to the immigration office to apply for the work permit. Is this true and did I understand what she told me? Thanks so much for your help!
