Recommended schools, suburbs and healthcare options in LA?

Expert Info

Submitted by dkillinger on
Destination: Los Angeles, CA
Hi, we are planning a move to LA, we have 2 girls aged 5 and 7, we have a good life in the UK in a large 5 bed house, at great schools, but we are looking for a more outdoors lifestyle in better climate - i.e. we are dying for daily blue skies.

The focus is good schools, a nice neighbourhood that won't kill me on rent, a decent sized house +3500 sq feet (ideally with a pool but not total necessity)

Which suburbs are best for families in Melbourne?

My partner and I intend to move to Australia as soon as the visa process is finished so we are looking at schooling for our son (secondary education will be 12 when we move). We are struggling to know what is a good and bad school in the Melbourne suburbs. It needs to be in an area where we can get a comfortable house for $400K - $600K. We had looked at the Tarneit area but have read lots of bad things about crime, drugs and some racial comments which has got us concerned about the area. Can anyone recommend suburbs and schools which might meet our needs?

I am a Scottish citizen living in Scotland, but working worldwide in the oil and gas industry. The plan is to complete a series of health and safety Diplomas and apply for work in NYC in order to work and live there within 5 years. However, is it possible to only apply to live in NYC and not work there, as most of my work is in Brazil? Is there a specific type of green card application for that? Thanks. James.

Is Guilin a pretty city?

I’m a British guy thinking about living permanently in Guilin or Yangshuo. I have quite high standards for aesthetics. On the other hand, I’ve lived in Manila (Philippines) for a few years so I know my way around a slum. However, I’m really trying to avoid a repeat of Manila conditions. Now…to my problem…I’ve seen photos of Guilin looking beautiful (can fall in love with it!!!) but also I’ve seen photos of it looking horrid and slummy. I can’t figure it out. Can you please explain this to me? Are there just some bad parts of town?

What will life be like as a solo expat woman in Riyadh?

Expert Info

Submitted by CarrieB on
Destination: Riyadh
I'm going to visit Riyadh on business, and need some advice about abayas. I know I need to arrive with one in my hand luggage, but I could do with some help on details. I've found several styles online, incuding kimono, pull on, button up, zipper and popper, and would appreciate women's views on the advantages of each. If I go shopping for one while I'm there will I be able to try it on in the shop, and get it taken up if need be (quite likely as I'm short) Some of my meetings will be women only, in a women only school.

Hi all, I am moving to Oman in August and have a housing allowance from my employer, however, I have to find my own accommodation. I am looking to get something in the Al Hail/Seeb region for roughly 300OMR a month. Ideally, it also needs to be furnished as well as I don't have much furniture to bring with me. Can anyone help me with how to find accommodation before I move over to Oman with this in mind? Or recommend an area to look at? Thank-you for any and all who offer information.
