Hello everyone. I am a Scottish cartoonist/illustrator (with a background in marketing and high end service industry jobs but is more than willing to turn my hand to absolutely anything). I am looking to move to Bucharest to be close to my partner who is a Bucharest resident. We have considered moving to Scotland together but there are currently restrictions on Romanians moving to the UK till 2014 so I want to move to Bucharest to be with her until the restrictions are lifted but to be honest if I like Romania and find a decent job I would happily stay. Any advice would be greatly accepted as I will do absolutely anything so we can have a life together. Any advice would be greatly recieved. Thank you all for your time :)

Hi thecartoonist

As a UK citizen you shouldn't need a visa to visit to Romania but you will need to apply for a long stay visa and a work permit if you plan to stay there for longer than 90 days and be employed. However, it is relatively easy for EU citizens to get visas and work permits in Romania.

Have a read of our Visas for Romania, Work Permits for Romania and Working in Romania pages for more information. Also look at our Romania guide in general for essential information about the cost of living, culture shock, banking and more. We also have a guide specifically on Bucharest which might help you.

The best of luck with your move to Romania.

Hi the cartoonist

Perhaps have a look at expat- blog.com. They have a jobs section on their Bucharest page.

The best of luck.

Hi Cartoonist - we don't have much information on Bucharest so if you do move there it would be fantastic if you could contribute to the expatarrivals.com guide to Bucharest - please keep in touch and let us know if you do move! Tom
