Hi all, I have recently accepted a job offer in Abu Dhabi and have been intensely researching accommodation options. My ideal option would be to have a studio apartment in Al Reem Island as I have heard good things plus I will be working central. One lot of apartments that keep appearing are Hydra apartments though still over my budget I cant allocate other within that area for any cheaper. Does anybody have any suggestions for apartments also I would prefer to not pay a year in advance as this would leave me to struggle on set up! Are the landlords rather flexible on taking payment? Unfortunately my company wont be covering costs and also I will need to get furniture etc. from the looks of it. If anyone can provide some advice on pretty much anything to do with the move that would be super. Thanks M

Hi MazzD,

From what I understand, landlords aren't very flexible with the annual lease payment requirement. At most, you might be able to talk a landlord into accepting two cheques; one for your first six months and one post-dated, to be cashed six months later. (Note that a bounced cheque is a criminal offence in the UAE.)

Another option would be to ask your employer for an advance which you can then pay back in monthly instalments, or you could apply for a bank loan.

You would probably benefit from hiring an agent to advise you on property rental in Abu Dhabi and help you find what you're looking for.

It also might be worth expanding your search to other areas; have a look at the Expat Arrivals Areas and Suburbs in Abu Dhabi page. The Accommodation in Abu Dhabi page also has some information that might be useful to you.

Best of luck with your move.

Thank you very much for the advice provided Meagan. I will look into all the guides you have forwarded. I aim to move out in end of sept so I know I cant secure a place as of yet till I get out there but your advice has assured me that some what more. I can get a little more excited rather than panic now. :)
