I have been offered a position in Dubaï with a basic salary of 15 000 aed / month. I am from Canada and will leave my current positon in Montreal to move to dubai next month. I am 27, have a master in data mining with 3 years of experience. Is this salary good enough for a single person? (housing is not included) Thank you!

It depends on what sort of life you want but yes it is enough to survive. A one bedroom apartment in a cheaper part of Dubai will cost you about 5k per month, a car will be 3k, bills 1k, so you will have some left but you can quickly burn through 5,000 AED. Coupe of speeding fines, couple of brunches and a night out with see that off.

If the house & transport allowances are not included, yes you can. for the last 33 years I live In Dubai and I think AED 15.000/ is not bad

It should be ok depending on where you plan to stay and if you get housing or other allowances. If you do get housing allowance, then it should be very fine. If not, you should still be fine but also are you planning to share or stay alone that will determine how much you will be left with?

I'm 28 and been in Dubai for about 18 months. I earn something similar as an engineer and I seem to be living OK on my own.

If you need further clarification, let me know.

You can survive on 15 AED no problem, as long as you manage your finances well. You will also have money left over. However there are a lot of people that come to Dubai and tend to go head on into the lifestyle and not count the money they burn. If you have similar personality then no amount of money will benefit you in Dubai.

Dubai is a very expensive city. I would insist on at least a basic health insurance - medical costs are astronomical in this country, an HRA allowance of atleast Dh50,000 to 70,000 a year, travel to and fro from your home country on an annual basis. If you are planning on having a family and school children, there is no public education available to expats. Private schools are expensive upwards Dh40,000 annually. If you get the above along with Dh 15,000 per month you could consider working here.
