I'm looking at accepting an offer from my employer that would have my wife and kids in Dubai (me there weekends, commuting elsewhere in region during the week). Would it be possible for my wife to also work there in Dubai part time? She is experienced and likes to do esthetician (spa) work, it's nothing my employer could sponsor.

Yes, she can work here if she is on your residency visa. You sign a letter of no objection and her employer obtains her work permit.

Thank you so much for this information. Do you know if a residency visa would normally accompany an expat transfer there by your employer? Do you have any idea whether somewhere like a spa would be willing to obtain a work visa as you mention?

It's certainly a lot more enticing for a company to employ a woman who is already sponsored for residency by her husband's company - there are still some charges (depending on the free zone) but it's about a quarter of the price.
