I am investigating the possibility of moving to one of these Emirates in 12 months time, once I've qualified in Software Development (I'm from Ireland). I am curious to gain a perspective for the availability of jobs in the region, what sort of companies are based there and whether it is an expanding industry there? Furthermore, is there a willingness among IT companies to hire graduates and provide training to them or is it only those with relevant experience who have a chance of gaining employment. Also, are the salaries competitive compared to Western Europe? If any expats who have worked there in this area could give me an idea of their experiences that would be great

The job market in Dubai has changed quite dramatically as a result of the global economic downturn. There no longer a need for companies to offer such lucrative employment packages to lure expats to the Middle East.
Expats will find it harder to secure low and mid-level positions. However, many employers are still activley seeking expats with more experience. Furthermore, companies are now looking for expats who have a long-term committment to stay in Dubai.
It is still worth putting the feelers out and looking for a position though, as salaries in Dubai are still very good and generally above the Middle East average.

Best of luck.
