We're moving to Kuala Lumpur cos my husband just got a fantastic job offer there. I'm keen to go, but as we have small kids I'm just a bit worried about the health situation in Asia. Does anyone have any info on healthcare in Malaysia. Are there decent hospitals in Kuala Lumpur? Is it expensive? Do most doctors speak English?

Hi Sally,

You'll find the general standard of healthcare good in Malaysia. In fact, Malaysia is becoming a popular destination for medical tourism, thanks to the country's top quality facillities.

Expats are lucky to have access to public healthcare. However, most expats prefer to use a private hospital simply for the added convinience. You'll be happy to know that the vast majority of doctors speak fluent English.

You should check wether your husband's employment contract includes a comprehensive health insurance policy for the whole family and ensure this meets all your needs.

Have a read of the Expat Arrival's  Healthcare in Malaysia for an overview of the country's medical system. Also check out the Healthcare in Kuala Lumpur page for a list of recommended public and private hospital's in the capital.
