I'm gonna be in Kuala Lumpur for a few months come December. Is public transport in KL sufficient, or should I rather look into buying a car?

You should get a car, if you are staying for a few months you might consider getting a car rental, they will do all servicing for you with 24 hr service

Kuala Lumpur has an extensive public transport system, so owning a car in the city is not really neccesary. Driving in KL is chaotic at the best of times, so public transport is your best bet if you wanting to lessen the stress and hastle. There are buses, an extensive rail system and taxis available. The LRT - Light Rail Transit - is the most reliable. Take a look at Getting Around in Kuala Lumpur for more on these forms of transport.
