Hi there,

I have recentley qualified as a software engineer and I've heard that Seattle is a great place for IT professionals to find work with big names like Google, Amazon and Microsoft being based in the city.

How easy would it be to get a job in Seattle? What is the work culture like in the city?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Hi Jonny,

IT is one of the largest industries in Seattle and the city does have a reputation for having low unemployment. The working culture in Seattle also has a great reputation, and companies tend to take good care of their employees.

That said, especially with the global recession, competition is tough. So, it is easier to find work than a lot of places but it is not necessarily easy. Have a look at the Work Permits in Seattle section for more information.

There are lots of jobs in the IT field in Seattle with Microsoft, Amazon and Google having offices in the city. However, getting your foot in the door is not easy. I would advise you to get some experience in your home country before applying for a job in Seattle. Employers in Seattle are looking for people with experience who stand out from the crowd.
