Hi All, I would really appreciate some advice here. I have just been offered 12,000AED for a job in Dubai. They will pay for Visa, flight and 1 or 2 months accommodation until I find my own place. Nothing else included. I will be going over on my own but hopefully my partner will follow within 2 months if he is able to find a job. After 3 months, salary will be put up to 14,000AED based on performance. Will this be enough to live comfortably and most importantly, enough to save so that we can travel to places like turkey or greece or maldives etc?

If you are earning 12 here you are good, as long as you dont have kids. You will live very comfortably. If you are moving here with a family then you need a different package

Hey Kirsty,

I suggest you take a look at our Cost of Living in Dubai page. You can work out what you would need to maintain your lifestyle and save for you holidays as well.

Remember your income in Dubai is tax free which is a major bonus.

Good luck

Hello, Well it depends where you want to live and which area. You can live really well in Sharjah. which is 10 minutes to Dubai. Where as living in Dubai itself will be difficult as the rents are very high... but 12,000 AEd is a really good Salary. Go a head :) If you need any help please contact me on [email protected]

Hi Kirsty, you don't say what you'll be doing or what point in your career you're at, so it's hard to benchmark if it's a good salary for the role. My rule of thumb was to look for a salary around the same as I was earning at home - and then I was obviously better off by the amount I would have lost to tax. In terms of how much you need to live on - you can live cheaply or spend a fortune in Dubai, it's up to you! I would say make sure you look at rental costs before you come, and be comfortable you can afford rent in the areas you would like to live on 12-14K per month (and perhaps start out by sharing, or getting a studio or one-bed), remembering the cost of renting a car (or you could be taking metro or taxis)... and not forgetting to carve out two chunks of cash for pension and for savings. People tend to get so sucked into the lifestyle that they forget to save, and the gratuity you would get paid at end of service is not equivalent to a pension at all. Certainly over the years, I have hired many people who have lived quite comfortably in Dubai at this kind of salary and it's a pretty reasonable amount to live on; just don't go mad in your first few months, budget and you'll be fine (and still have plenty of fun!).

I guess...yes initially its difficult for luxury as rent is high here. But there places where you can have rented apartment in less. But I would suggest to move to Dubai and leave ..qulity of life is good here.Important is u will have gulf experrience, which matters. Best of Luck...I belive in living with uncertainty if you want to grow. Cheers Smruti +971562160539
