My wife and I will be leaving for Barcelona in April. While there we plan to open a bank account and find a property to rent or purchase. We have never done this before and so are wondering if anyone has had an especially gratifying experience with a bank there. Our Spanish skills are extremely limited so we would need a bank that can provide English speaking staff and a website that is available in both Spanish and English. Any help or insight is appreciated.

Hi Steve,
Finding an appropriate local bank in Spain that will be both willing to converse in English, and willing to extend a mortgage to you, may be challenging to find. There are several international banks however which offer services in English and are able to extend certain transactions between countries. HSBC and Barclays are popular with many expats moving to Spain.
For more information about banking, you can view our page on banking, money and taxes in Spain. Our guide to Spain may be able to answer any other questions you have about life in Barcelona.
Hope this helps!
