What would the typical salary percentage raise be when changing jobs in China (especially in Shanghai)?

Expert Info

Submitted by dhn0906 on
Destination: Shanghai

I'm currently working as an expat in a global consumer products company in the Shanghai office. I'm considering switching jobs to another global consumer products company (also as an expat). What percentage salary increase can I expect in such a case? I would like to use this information in my negotiations. Any other tips on switching jobs in China as an expat would be very appreciated as well.

Can an expat student study in an Italian public school?

I am going to work in Milan. I would like my 15-year-old daughter to study at a public school. Will a public school accept her and how can we apply for the school? Will it be hard for my daughter to learn in Italian classes? My daughter is fluent in English. She's as good as a native speaker.

Which TEFL course are highly regarded in China?

Expert Info

Submitted by Tabibat on
Destination: China

My husband has been offered a job in China so the kids and i are planning to join him there. I plan to teach English while there and have searched online for TEFL courses. The reviews for most of the training providers are worrying, so i really would like to hear from someone who recently moved to China and actually used their TEFL certificate to get an English teaching job. I'm interested in knowing which provider they went with, if they do recommend them and better yet, if they were offered a legit internship (for those that promise one with their course).

Is there a time limit to registering kids for school in Ireland?

Is there a legal time limit before you have to register/enrol the kid in the school upon arrival? Eg. in Austria, you have to register kids over 6 years old and they have to start school within 2 weeks upon arrival (official registration). Is there such an obligation in Ireland as well? Thank you

How long does it take to find out if your work permit has been granted for Spain?

Expert Info

Submitted by BRUNO ALVES DE… on
Destination: Spain

Hi everyone. Please, if you have experience with the application process for a work permit for Spain, through a company that is hiring you, I would kindly like to know how long it takes for the Spanish authorities to send the granted letter? I was told that it would take 4 weeks for that, but it's already been 8 weeks and no answer yet. The company ANTARES that is giving us all the support, told me that the authorization was probably already granted, and this may just be a huge delay in sending the answer letter.

Any relocation agents/coaches to be found in the Abruzzo (Province of Teramo) area?

Expert Info

Submitted by Debbie Maynard on
Destination: Europe

We are a retired couple. Next year we will be moving to the town of Pineto, in the Province of Teramo (Abruzzo). We think we would benefit from the services of a relocation agent. However, when we look at ads on the internet for relocation agents, they all seem to be in the north or the big cities - Rome, Milan, etc. Anybody know of agents working in Abruzzo?

Are there any travel limitations for those who have a settlement visa for Austria?

Expert Info

Submitted by markpgh on
Destination: Austria

Thank you in advance - if we become residents of Austria through a settlement Visa (retirees from us / not working), are we limited to travel in the Schengen countries for 90 days out of 180 or are we entitled to unlimited travel? We really want to be serial travelers for the next 2 or 3 years throughout Europe but feel handcuffed a bit. I am getting cross eyed trying to read up but still not sure.

For the last 10 years, I've lived in Greece. I understand a little German because the last two years I've been working winter seasons in Austria also as an executicve chef. I would like to hear school recommendations and house sites and if possible job sites. Thanks and sorry for a lot of questions.

Hello and thank you in advance for your response(s). My wife and I are planning on retiring and moving to Austria from the USA in June 2020. We have been to the Austrian Embassy website for instructions on the procedures and most information we have reviewed makes sense. We are still not clear on which application we are to fill out - We are planning on staying at least 2 years and likely much longer. Are we filling out an application for temporary residence or long term residence?

Are the Irish good friends?

Expert Info

Submitted by willdet482br on
Destination: Ireland

Hello,

I've recently read the interviews of expats in Ireland, and they're all very positive, but some of Joanna's comments concerned me. She wrote/said:
"Dubliners are very friendly on the outside, but rarely share their real feelings and thoughts. I have a feeling they sometimes tend to look down on or be a bit patronising towards immigrants."
Do you agree with this, in Dublin or the whole island? This is a major concern for me because I would not want to live somewhere where I couldn't make meaningful relationships and/or where I didn't feel welcome/wanted.
