How is the general attitudes of Bharanians towards Africans?

Hi Ambrose,

There have been some instances of racism against African expats in Bahrain, but it would be unfair to say that the whole population was racist.

Generally, the Bahrainis are hospitable people who love to socialise. While, the culture is Bahrain is very traditional, the people are quite tolerant of foreigners.

It is important to earn the respect of the Bahrainis by adhering to their cultural norms; dress modestly (especially female expats), avoid drinking alcohol around Muslim colleagues. Also pay special attention to Muslim traditions during Ramadan, while expats aren't expected to fast during the holy month - don't eat or drink it sight of the locals.

The Expat Arrivals page on Culture Shock in Bahrain will give you a general overview on Bahraini cultural etiquette.

Good luck.
