Hi I own an apartment in Portugal (€100,000 worth) along with a couple of bank accounts and an ongoing mortgage on the apartment. Completed my Masters in Engineering from UK recently and wish to know if I can apply for Portugal residence or not, presently hold an India passport. If yes then what is the process. Thanks

Hi sananashish,

Usually in order to obtain a residence permit for Portugal, you would need to first secure employment. Also as India is not a member of the EU, you would have to apply for the permit via a consulate outside of Portugal. More details can be found on our Visas for Portugal page.

In your case, though, this might be relevant: there does seem to be a special permit called the Golden Visa Residence Permit which we don't have listed on our website as it's not very common. It might apply to you, but as this is quite a complicated matter I would suggest you consult with a specialist. This website may be of use, though, especially the FAQs section.

Best of luck.
