Hi, I have signed a one year teaching contract with a private international school in Cairo. They told me to come on a tourist visa, and at the end of the contract they will reimburse me 7,000EGP. The problem is that I can't get a straight answer from the embassy in DC or consulates around the US as to whether or not I can enter Egypt with just my arrival ticket (and not show round trip airfare). The problem is on a tourist visa I'm only allowed to stay 30 days, and if I do have to show round trip airfare within that 30 day period, I would have to keep changing my return flight to next summer (when the contract finishes) as well as renew my visa, although the school said they would take care of the permit once I arrive...I don't want to spend a fortune on airfare penalties. Any suggestions or clarifications you can make? Can I enter with an arrival ticket only? Should I get the visa in advance or at the gate? Should I get a business visa? What about airfare issues? Thank you!

Hi there

Visa processes for Egypt are notoriously convoluted, and the country is not exactly known for its bureaucratic efficiency- as you may have experienced first hand.

Our Visas for Egpyt and Work Permits for Egypt pages address some of the issues you have mentioned.

Good luck with this, hopefully someone with firsthand experience will be able to help.

Best wishes,

Have you resolved your issue? If so, I'd like to know the answers to your questions. Can you name a good International School to teach for?
