Hi, I have proposed a project to an investor in Oman (Sohar) and to reduce his risk he has offered me a portion of the project's profit + benefits and a basic 'pocket money salary', but has asked me to provide him with the numbers (amount of money) I want.

Speaking to some friends in my field who work in Oman I have found the average monthly salary for my expertise (technical background) is around OMR 4500 per month + benefits. I have been offered the following benefits: House + Car + Fuel + Insurance + Private Health Insurance + 35 Days holidays + Food + 1 Flight home per year + Internet + Mobile + Visa

Could you let me know if I should ask for any other benefits? Would OMR 1000 cover the rest of my costs (e.g clothes, sight seeing...) The business will start producing within 6 months (3 months after construction) Any tips would be highly appreciated. Thanks

Hi Zanboor,

How far your salary will go in Oman depends entirely on your lifestyle. Do you eat out a lot, frequently go clothes shopping, or plan to travel on weekends?

Read our guide for more information on the
cost of living in Oman.

Cayley

The answer to all three are pretty much no at least in the first six months as I will be busy trying to make the business profitable (extra motivation :) ) I have read that guide, based on these I think I will be more than fine but wanted to check if I had missed any random costs?

I have been offered the position of DGM in a reputed business group in oman with a monthly salary of 1800 OR plus benefits (fully furnished family accommodation, car, fuel allowance, mobile for official calls, business class tickets for self and family every year plus performance bonus). Would this be be considered a good offer for me to take up the offer? My spouse will join me and my daughter will also start day there in Indian school. Would appreciate your advise at the earliest.
