What is the cost of living in Portugal?

Portugal isn't as expensive as other European countries and expats earning euros or pounds should live quite comfortably in any of its cities or towns. 

Many sources say that a monthly income of around 2,000 euros a month will afford you a basic but pleasant lifestyle. Because you won't have to pay accommodation costs, you will have a bigger disposable income to spend on things like food and entertainment. If you decide to send your sons to a public school, you will save on annual fees as these schools are free to all residents of Portugal.
