Working in China - Can I get a Work Permit for China without any tertiary education certificates ?

Dear experts, My company(work here for 2years 7months) who is a Swiss MNC wanted to send me to their sister plant in China for a senior sales job. I have 10 years sales experience in total. My question is, do Chinese authorities allow me who had an incomplete Advance Diploma in Electrical & Electronics to work as an expat in China? My college who offered the course had discontinued the course, thus I cannot finish it. Your advise and help is very much appreciated. Thanks. Sleepless now..

Hi PekkaB,

I don't have any examples of cases where people have had to apply for a visa without any tertiary qualifications or certificates.

I suggest speaking to your employer. They will play a major role in supporting your visa application and are probably quite familiar with the process if they've employed expats previously.

Hi Shantalie, Yes, I've work in this swiss based company for 2 years 7 months and they're offering me a job in China. They have setup a company in Suzhou for many years. I hope my 10 years experience in highly complex industrial sales count in my favor. I'm worried on the Chinese official whether I get the Z Visa because I lacked paper qualification. Do you have any reference case that those without paper/academic qualification is able to get a work permit in China? Thanks for your reply....

Hi Pekka83,

Getting a work permit for China firstly depends on you having a job offer from a Chinese employer. Therefore, it is up to them wether they are willing to employ you without the completed degree. For a detailed overview of the process refer to the Expat Arrivals page on Work Permits for China.

I think the fact that you've worked for the Swiss sister company should stand in your favour.

How about GCE "O" Level? Can apply for working permit? Currently working in Singapore office which has a branch in shanghai.
