does anyone know what the price of school fees is for a 3 year old and a 5 year old. Also is a package of about 2000 rials excluding phone, car and petrol a good salary. What is the best areas for a family to live in?

Hi Angie

It depends on the school. School fees will come to about 3000-4000 rials a year per child at the British School in Muscat. The Sultan School is a bit cheaper - about 2000-3000 per child. The PDO school is free for Shell employees.

Whether your salary is enough depends on your lifestyle. You're looking at about 400 OMR a month for rent on a 3-bedroomed flat and 500 to 700 OMR a month for school fees. (Although in reality you will need to pay these fees in advance as a lump sum).

thanks Gaby, are you living in Oman at the moment? What is the best area to live in for a family? My husband is going on his own for awhile and will look out for places etc but would like to know what is recommended. Is it a nice place to live for people with young families?

Dear Angie There is nothing to worry to work in Oman alone also. Regards to best places to live will be Muscat city ( capital area ) and Sohar are developed and will be trouble free for all the things like schooling, transport, etc., Other wise there is no difficulty for expats to work in Oman. More over you can browse internet to know the kind of your employer. Government is making all possible measures to make sure expats are not troubled. Women have good respect given. As in any country here also, will depend on how we are dressing our self and behaving our self. You have a very less crime rate to compare rest of the world. What else you need !!!
