Hey guys, I'm needing some advice about what the best expat areas in Shanghai. I'm looking for an apartment in Shanghai for when I move there next year. I'm gonna be working in the city centre so will be looking for something as close to my office as possible and near the public transport - I'm single and early 30's so somewhere hip and cool would be great, with a bit of nightlife, shopping, etc...Anyone got any suggestios???

If you're thinking about having kids anytime soon, you might want to check the international schools in the area as well. chalksmart.com offers a good list of schools based on districts in Shanghai.

Hi Phil, my suggestion is that you can choose to live in Jing'an District, near Jing'an Temple. Jing'an District is the most beautiful area in Shanghai and very convenient to take metro No. 2, also with many bars and modern shopping malls around. You can get a luxury apartment(rental will be more than RMB 10k) in some modern neighbourhood, but if your budget is limited, you can also find a small flat in some old building at Yuyuan Road(rental will be around 3K or 4K).
