Where to move to in Melbourne?

How do I choose a suburb of Melbourne based on school zone? My child is 13 years old at present. How do I know if the house I am going to rent is within the school zone. Can anyone help?? I just do not know where to start.

Also, it might be beneficial to ask if the school can take on your 13 year old child. There are certain public schools as well that are renowned for being excellent in the field of arts, sports, education. I hope that helps.

I suggest you begin by choosing your schools and then finding out from the school itself which areas are within its school zone and then begin the house hunt.

Hello, I am currently relocating from Sydney to Melbourne in April/May this year. I have 2 boys aged 12 and 13 and trying to find a government high school in a nice area. Has anyone had similar experience they could share? I do note that on some of the high school websites, they state that they are to full capacity and therefore would not take anymore students in 2014. I have yet to contact the education office. We are on a 457 sponsored visa, we have been in Sydney for 2 years previously we lived in the UK. Any advice would be welcomed! Thanks.

Firstly you need to decide whether you are going for a private school or a public one. If public it is very important that you get a 'good' area. I'd be looking East rather than West, broadly. Some of the best public schools are Glen Waverley Sec. College, Mt Waverley SC, Ringwood SC, most Camberwell area schools, Blackburn. Many others but some good, some not so good.

The school you are interested in will have a map of the zone you need to be in. Be careful- some schools are fantastic, others not so much!
