These people who victimized inocent victim shall refrain from doing this evil wrong doings. These people dont have heart. What they victimizing are very poor people who just want to look for job opportunities to help uplift their families from poverty. Very sad since people don't have conscience.

Hi Murali,

While I can't say with 100% certainty that this job offer is some sort of scam, the fact that they've asked you for money upfront should sound the alarm bells. Employers should always foot the cost of a visa and assist you with the process.

Such scams are common in Nigeria. You can read more on this thread as well.

Any job offer where they ask the employee for money upfront or where there offer is too good to be true means that it is probably a scam. You therefore should compare this job offer to jobs and salaries you've had in the past before deciding whether to accept it or not.

I hope this helps.

Shantalie

Murali, We are having the same situation. They did the same process of my application. After accepting the offer, they referred to immigration consultant to process my STR visa. So I tried to do research online about Nigeria. You can apply visa through online, so why we need immigration consultant. I was so happy when I found this post I did not proceed my application. Hi Anonymous

This is most likely a scam. Never give a company money in advance, and never give out your banking details. Even though Glotech have put out a statement about this themselves, which can be seen on their "official" website, our research indicates that the company itself seems to be fake.

Scams are becoming more elaborate, so you increasingly have to be careful. The best thing to do would be to check with your closest Nigerian Embassy as to whether or not this is a legitimate and registered business.

For a bit more info, have a look at our Working in Nigeria page.

Best of luck,

Xavier

Hi to all, I have the same problem. I was asked also to purchase an insurance (EITHLIPC). Excerpts of the email is as follows. We are in receipt of your email, you are to send the other remaining documents for the visa approval(1,Proof of vaccination against yellow fever,2,A scanned copy of your international passport valid with minimum of 6 months validity). Again,if you can not find the insurance company,I can assist you in getting it here in Nigeria to save you of time wasting, so that you can be among the next list of employee's that will be receiving their traveling complete documents to join the company. Below, is the details for the INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL,HEALTH AND LIFE INSURANCE.(EITHLIPC) COVER you are to choose the plan that you want. Plan A is $750.USD Plan B is $2000.USD Plan C is $2500.USD Plan D is $3000.USD I am in quandary if this is true or not. Back here, 750USD is a big amount. I also browse the net about the Drillog but seems fine. Does any one here enlightened me how to know if this is a scam or not.

I am in the same situation with Murali and ABB. The only difference was the contact person was a certain Mr. Chukwuemeka. This guy contacted through my mobile number to confirm my query on the legitimacy of the EITHLIPC which according to them is a pre-requisite for applying for an STR visa. Now, I was passed to a Barr. John Adewola and was advise me to produce 750USD as a processing fee and should be wired through western union. The company name is Drillog PDL. I have browse thru LinkedIn and was able to look for Mrs. Ijeoma Ekpe and seems this person is legitimate/

DEAR ALL, I PERSONALLY CHECKED ALL THE DETAILS WITH MY OFFER LETTER AND THE COMPANY NEVER WANTED THE MONEY FROM EMPLOYEES FOR ANY TYPE OF PROCESSING FEES. ALL THE RESPONSES HERE IN FAVOR OF PROCESSING FEES IS PART OF THE SCAM AND NEVER EVER SEND MONEY . THEY ARE REAL SCAMMERS. MY REPRESENTATIVE DIRECTLY VISITED THEIR OFFICE AND ALL ARE FRAUD. SOMEBODY IN THE COMPANY IS MAKING ALL THESE FALSE REPRESENTATIONS FOR JOB SEEKERS AND NEVER EVER PAY MONEY AS IT IS COMPANY'S RESPONSIBILITY. PLEASE DO NOT SEND ANY MONEY FOR ANY TYPES OF VISA /INSURANCE POLICY. ALL WILL BE TAKEN CARE OF BY COMPANY.

I have read your Posts. You guys are not certain about this company. The Company, and the employees are legitimate. So do not spoil their image.@ ABB, If you can apply for visa online, and your employer, gives you an immigration consultant to handle it for you, what is wrong?. are you inviting your self to work, or the company that is inviting you to work. Let us be reasonable for ones okay. If you are not certain about the company, you can forget about the offer and move on. Regards Thomas Rock([email protected]

Be very very careful with too good offers and those that require upfront payment! If anybody gets a seemingly fraudulent offer from Nigerian companies in the future do refer them to me for investigations. Within 2 to 3 days you should get a feedback from me. Cheers! toyediggsatyahoocom

Hi Anonymous,

Please provide more details about your job offer. Were you interviewed for the position? What documents have you had to provide? What is the offer? Have the employers asked for any money up front ?

There are safety issues in Abuja, as there are throughout Nigeria and other expat destinations. Obviously, you will need to adapt your lifestyle somewhat to remain safe in Abuja. Find secure accommodation, be aware of the road safety issues and don't draw attention to yourself as an expat in a new country. There are also risks of terrorism and financial crime in Nigeria - but these should not necessarily deter you from making the move.

Read our Safety in Nigeria page for some more detailed information.

Good luck.

Hi there

Funnily enough, we've just updated an article on expat contract negotiation. Check it out.

Also, have a look at our Cost of living in Nigeria page to get an idea of how much it's going to cost to live there, so you can know whether you're being offered enough.

Hope this helps.

Best of luck,

Xavier
