How do I find work in Portugal?

Hi my name is David Kemp,am 35 years old and from the 27th of February I've been living in Maritenda with my wife Lauren,daughter Ellis Rose(3)and my mother in law Gail.

We came to Portugal to rent a bar off a friend of my mother in laws,and after selling our home,car and basically everything,he turned round and said he wants to sell it to us now.After the shock of this,we have been left in limbo,and I was wondering if anyone know of any jobs going so I can get out there and work.

In Scotland I was a supervisor in a blind manufacturing company for 16 years,and my wife Lauren was a make up artist for Space NK and Laura Mercier for the last 8years.I would be willing to do most jobs,I have a current uk driving licence,and am a hard worker.My mother in laws lawyer is dealing with getting us the required paper work so we can work legally.cheers

Hi David,

There are lots of Brits that move to Portugal and start up businesses. If you start a business in the Algarve, you can tap into the British market. If you are unable to by the bar from your friends there are some other job opportunities you can also look into.

Often you will find that the best way to land a job in Portugal is through word-of-mouth, so its best to get out there and make contacts. There is a big manufacturing industry in Portugal. Do remember that unemployment in Portugal is quite high and you will need to perservere to find a job.

I see that this is a very old post so unlikely to be of much use to you David..Not sure where Maritenda is? but i'm guessing it's not in the Algarve. Your story is a tale of caution for anyone contemplating becoming an ex-pat anywhere in the world.It's so important to 'dot the i's and cross the t's before making such important moves.NEVER do anything like this on trust alone.Written contracts are essential.So very sorry this happened to you and do hope time has provided opportunities. for work It's not so bleak as it's often painted here.My D moved to the Algarve 5 yrs ago and landed several jobs,only being unemployed for two months. in winter. If you have good skills they are needed here just as much as anywhere else. The good news,things are definitely looking up.
