Hey all,

When I move, how can I convert money into cedi? How easy or important is it to open a bank account? I've heard that credit card scams are a thing and also that opening a bank account involves lots of admin and documents. Does anyone have personal experience with banking in Ghana?

Thanks!

Hey,

I don’t speak from personal experience, but I understand that money can be exchanged at the airport, hotels and there are many bureaux de change offices too. Where are you from and what currency will you have with you? Some places accept US dollars. For more, see our page on Banking, Money and Taxes in Ghana. It also gives info on opening a bank account. This can seem complicated, but procedures vary across banks. There are also many international banks in Ghana, so check if your bank has offices there.

All the best!
