Hi, I have a dumb question about healthcare costs for locals (i.e, Vietnamese citizens). Do you have to pay for medical procedures even in public hospitals if you're Vietnamese? Also, how likely is it to run into a couple of thousands of dollars? Cheers, Michael

Hi there

Over the last few years, the Vietnamese government has been working to put a universal healthcare plan in place for all its citizens. However, this is still a work in progress so it is likely that you would still encounter some costs when using the public healthcare system in Vietnam.

Private healthcare may be more expensive, but the standards of care and facilities are far closer to those that most expats will expect. Our guide to Healthcare in Vietnam has a helpful breakdown of the different healthcare options expats will have in the country.

Hope this helps!

Hi Mbran,

In Vietnam , You have to pay for everything, especial hospital fees are so expensive.

Public hospitals are always crowded.

If you have any question, you can ask me. I'm a Vietnamese, so Hope this hepls!
