Hello,
we are a family of 3, moving to Capetown for 3-4 months at the beginning of 2024.
I am struggling in understanding what would be the best option in terms of accommodation and school. Our daughter is 7 years old and she will probably need to follow on distance the Italian curriculum (because we are away only for a few months), but I would really like and need her to attend a school while we are there, both for having friends around and also because we , parents, need to work. It might be also a sort of Forest school, or something like that. Do you have any advice?
And, as far as I understood, moving around the city is not so fast. Thus we were wondering what would be the best match of accommodation subrub + school/children place.
Can you help?
Thanks a lot
Lucia

Hi Lucia,
Cape Town is a wonderful city, with plenty of options for accommodation. Landlords in the city typically prefer longer-term rental contracts, but it is also possible to negotiate a short-term contract or rent out an AirBnB. Please have a look at Areas and Suburbs in Cape Town for more on the best places to live in the city, both for short-term and longer stays.
In terms of education and schools, there are plenty of options for you to consider. Most expats who will be in the country long term usually send their children to private schools. You may have a look at our Pre-school and Childcare page for more on the options available. Additionally, The Dante Alighieri Society offers children's Italian courses as well as playgroups and creative workshops to keep little ones entertained and engaged.
I hope this helps and best of luck with the move!
