Hello everyone,

I am so excited to join this forum and thankful that this forum exists. I currently live in the US (Leesburg, VA), and dream of retiring to Spain. I have visited Benalmedena in Costa del Sol and absolutely fell in love with the entire region.I have some time to learn Spanish and get ready for my move. I am just curious as to how to go about preparing myself mentally and financially.

Thank you in advance for any advice, opinion or suggestion.

Hi there,

Welcome to the forum! You've come to the right place – we have loads of info I'm sure you'll find useful.

The best place to start would probably be our Moving to Spain page, which gives a general overview of life in the country. From there, you'll find various sections to browse. Since you specifically mentioned finances, I'd recommend giving Banking, Money and Taxes in Spain. Culture Shock in Spain is also a good one to check out to get an idea of the country's cultural norms and what differences you might encounter.

Definitely one of the best things you can do to prepare is learn the language, so it's great that you have some time to invest in that. Check out our article Tips and Tricks to Learning a New Language.

When do you plan on moving? Have you looked into visa requirements yet?

A well-deserved vacation in Spain includes good pensions, free medicine and medicines, preferential or free travel on public transport (each region has its own rules), cheap products and services, a calm, comfortable lifestyle. Everywhere there are leisure centers for senior citizens. My grandparents live in Costa del Sol and they are absolutely happy! They often take a car for rent and travel trough Spain.
