I am trying to figure out the logistics of moving to Norway from USA with a chronic illness. I have Chron's Disease and have infusions of a certain medication at the hospital every two months. I'm worried that if I move to Norway I won't be able to have everything set up, see a GP, then a specialist, then start infusions in a quick enough manner.

Any insight into this problem is appreciated. I know it's specific, but I can't seem to find any helpful information anywhere.

Hi there,

Norway has an excellent healthcare system and I'm certain you will be able to access quality care. Given that timing is an issue, however, you will want to arrange as much ahead of time as you can.

My advice would be to leave directly after your hospital infusions, take a good supply of any chronic medication you use (check shipping regulations to find out what the maximum is) and obtain reference letters from your current doctor(s) in advance.

Using the public system could take some time, although the quality of care is high and it's funded by the government. Going private, though pricey, should ensure you're able to see the doctors you need to as soon as possible. I'd highly recommend taking out international insurance for this purpose. The insurance company will likely be able to give you some good advice about where to go and what to do.

Hope this helps, please let us know if you have any more questions.
