I got a job teachimg preschoolers in china, they sent me an invitation for a type m visa with the promise that I would be able to apply for a type z visa upon arrival. Is this true? I really want to take this job, but I don't want to risk deportation.

Hi Morgan,

I far as I am aware you can extend a visa or change jobs while in China but you cannot swap between types of visa. You actually now need to leave China and apply from elsewhere if you want to change types of visa. People used to hop across to Hong Kong, but this is no longer allowed.
