By when do I need to get the new mandatory ID card if I'm an expat living in Abu Dhabi?

If you already have an ID card, you have six months (until June 2012) to renew it, otherwise you become subject to delay fees. If you don't have an ID card then you have until 31 March 2012 to apply for one, without penalty. Keep in mind that expats in the UAE will not be able to renew their residence permits without having an up-to-date ID card as of January 1 2012.

Additional biometric centres have been opened around the emirate to keep up with increased demand.
